Robinho faces Hughes' wrath

Friday, January 23, 2009

Fuming Manchester City boss Mark Hughes will wait until Robinho returns from his homeland before deciding what disciplinary action to take against the Brazilian star.

Robinho is currently back in Brazil after leaving City's winter training camp in Tenerife without permission from his boss.

The former Real Madrid forward has some personal issues to sort out while he also wanted to celebrate his 25th birthday with his family and friends. But instead he is likely to spend his big day listening to Hughes reading the riot act.

"Robby left without my permission," Hughes told the club's official website. "He felt he had personal issues he wanted to address. He made the decision to leave the camp and go back to Brazil.

"That was not with my permission, and the situation at the moment is not really practical to get him back here with time differences and length of flights, so he will be back at the weekend ready to train when we are back in Manchester at the first available opportunity.

"Once he is back I’ll sit down and explain my feelings and decisions will be made after that.

"In fairness I have already spoken to him. He rang me and we had a brief chat which was obviously difficult given the language constraints but he understands that we need to address this and we will but then we will move on.

"He obviously felt that there were certain things that he needed to address back home, and so, wrongly, he made that decision to go back to Brazil.

"But he will be back at the weekend, then we will make sure that he knows my feelings and I am sure we will get a more detailed explanation from Robby."

Hughes also insisted the walk-out had nothing to do with the club's failed bid to sign Kaká from AC Milan.

He added: "Robby has come out and said that and he was on a plane to Brazil before the Kaká deal was dead and buried.

"People who are trying to link the two events are just trying to cause a little bit of mischief."
