Genoa slam 'cheat' Francesco Totti

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi branded AS Roma captain Francesco Totti "the worst diver in Italy" following his club's 3-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was a tense match and both sides were reduced to ten men as Rodrigo Taddei and Giuseppe Sculli were both dismissed in a fractious match.

Preziosi, though, argued that Sculli was sent off because Totti went down too easily. Sculli was twice booked for fouls on Er Pupone.

"Roma won fair and square and this defeat will do us good but Totti is a cheat," Preziosi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"There are a great many divers in Italy and Totti is the worst of them all."

"Totti a diver? What can I say, the images are there," said Genoa coach Gianpiero Gasperini.

Grifoni defender Matteo Ferrari, who played alongside Totti for three years at Roma, added: "Let's just say that Francesco is good at earning certain fouls."
