Marek Hamšík figurine helps police solve crime

Friday, March 20, 2009

Napoli star Marek Hamšík is now a hero off the pitch too as his figurine has led to the arrest of two men who robbed an elderly man in Meta, a town south of Naples.

A local man got in touch with the police earlier this week when two men pretended to be salesmen came to his house and tried to sell him a fake contract for a telephone, Channel4 reports.

While he ran the proposition over in his head, one of the men took a walk around his apartment and stole a number of valuables, as well as a figurine of Hamšík, which belonged to the victim's grandson.

The old man didn't notice, but his Napoli mad grandson did and police added the information to their case notes.

The thieves' penchant for Napoli has seen them pay the penalty though, as police found the stolen Hamšík figurine when they stopped the two men in the street and searched them. Both men were arrested and the case closed.

This is the second time something rather odd has happened to Hamšík since joining Napoli from Brescia in 2007.

The 21-year-old midfielder was carjacked in December and robbed of his favourite Rolex watch while he was sitting in traffic near Naples.

Napoli fans set up a Facebook page apologising for the crime and the Rolex was found a few days later.
