Soccer legend links Ronaldo and Robinho to drugs

Monday, March 23, 2009

Brazilian legend Pelé has made comments that are likely to shock Brazilian football, after he indicated that former Real Madrid stars Ronaldo and Robinho took drugs at a private tourism event in São Paulo, radio station Jovem Pan reports.

Pelé is currently appearing in court in relation to a case involving his son Edinho, who has confessed to being addicted to cocaine.

"Most journalists speak of drugs in football, but in fact there are only a few cases," Pelé told the court.

"It is unfair that only football is spoken of because of one or two cases, like Ronaldo and Robinho, who has that problem.

"Kaká is an example of a great role model, and beside him there are others like (Michel) Platini, (Franz) Beckenbauer and many others. There are a lot of good people and it is unfair to focus on an isolated case."
