David Beckham tops Sunday Times UK Rich List for sportsmen

Table of Contents
David Beckham has been confirmed as Britain's richest sportsman by the annual Rich List set to be published by The Sunday Times newspaper this weekend.

The list is not restricted to British citizens and includes those who either live or predominantly work in Britain. Individuals’ wealth also takes in to account that of their entire family and earnings outside sport.

Beckham and his wife, Victoria, has amassed a fortune estimated at 125 million pounds , 35 million pounds more than retired heavyweight boxer Lennox Lewis, who is in second place.

The England midfielder, who is on a loan deal with AC Milan at present, draws a huge salary from his parents MLS club LA Galaxy, but it is in the area of personal endorsements in which he outstrips his peers, such is the marketable commodity of his global image.

Jenson Button, a Formula One driver with Brawn GP team, is the highest new entry in the rich list, coming in at joint-ninth to match Newcastle United striker Michael Owen on 40 million pounds.

The full Sunday Times Rich List will be published in the paper on April 26.
