Claude Makélélé to play one final season

Saturday, May 23, 2009

Veteran Claude Makélélé has confirmed he will play on for another year at Paris St Germain.

It had previously been suggested that the former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder was ready to call time on his playing career.

However, PSG supremo Sébastien Bazin has promised 36-year-old that he will be involved next term.

"I'm staying because chairman Sébastien Bazin assured me the future coach was relying on me," Makélélé told L'Equipe.

"I shall probably stay on the pitch for one more year."

He added: "Afterwards, I would like to work for the club, at the disposal of the president, the manager and the coach.

"I'm interested in recruiting and I think my networks abroad, my charisma and my credit as a player could help the club.

"I have contacts abroad. I can approach clubs in Spain, in England and even Brazil and Argentina, looking for players."
