Premier League round-up: Ferdinand's howler sparks Portsmouth's comeback win

Anton Ferdinand's horrendous blunder left Sunderland in the relegation mire as the Black Cats threw away the lead to lose 3-1 at Portsmouth.

Sunderland, who could be caught by relegation rivals Hull City and Newcastle United on the final day of the season, took the lead on 59 minutes when Kenwyne Jones finished a swift counter-attack.

But Pompey were level just a minute later as Peter Crouch's header ricocheted off Grant Leadbitter back into his own box and John Utaka squeezed home amid confusion as referee Alan Wiley had blown for a penalty against Calum Davenport before the shot crossed the line.

Sunderland then found themselves behind in the 68th minute after a howler from Ferdinand, who completely missed a routine long ball and allowed Utaka to steal into the box and caused Phil Bardsley to prod the ball into his own net.

The hosts then made sure of the points two minutes from time when substitute Armand Traoré was given too much time to pick his spot inside the far post.
