Javier Saviola joins Benfica from Real Madrid

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Argentine forward Javier Saviola will be playing for Benfica next season after completing his €5 million move from Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal with an option for a further season, according to the Portuguese club's website, www.slbenfica.pt.

Saviola has barely featured for Real in the past two seasons since arriving in the Spanish capital on a free transfer from Barcelona.

"Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Javier Saviola," read a statement on Real's official website, www.realmadrid.com.

"The club wants to thank the player for his work and wishes him success in the new stage of his career."

El Conejo is the second player to leave the Bernabéu this summer after veteran Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro, who rejoined Juventus.
