Spurs boss Redknapp keen on Arsenal legend

Saturday, July 25, 2009

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says he would welcome Patrick Vieira at White Hart Lane, despite his Arsenal connection.

Vieira, who enjoyed trophy-laden seasons at the Gunners, is not thought to be part of Inter Milan boss José Mourinho's future plans.

But Redknapp believes the France international would add quality to his midfield and has no reservations over the 33-year-old, who was a hero at Spurs' bitter North London rivals for a decade.

"He was a legend at Arsenal and he wants to come to Tottenham," Redknapp said after the friendly 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Wembley.

"It's not the money, it's probably a third of the money he is earning at Milan. He wants to come because he wants to play football. That says an awful lot about him.

"I think he is a fantastic player. He would bring an awful lot to our football club."

Asked about the reaction of Tottenham fans, Redknapp said: "What's he done? He hasn't killed anyone. He's just a great player who played for Arsenal."
