Manchester United began their Champions League campaigns with narrow 1-0 victory over Besiktas at İnönü Stadium.

Paul Scholes scored the only goal of the game 13 minutes from time, heading home the rebound after Nani's shot had been blocked by Besiktas keeper Hakan Arıkan.
