Soccer match played for nearly two days, scoring 549 goals

Saturday, October 17, 2009

A marathon soccer match saw 40 hours of action, 549 goals, a new world record set and thousands of pounds raised for charity.

The game, at Eastwood Ho in Felixstowe, ran from 9pm on Friday night until Sunday afternoon - over 38 hours longer than a normal match.

It set a new world record for the longest ever football match, beating the previous record by four hours, and raised about £7,000 for the Have a Heart campaign, money going towards heart care facilities at Ipswich Hospital.

The game, which was started by Ipswich Town legend Kevin Beattie, was held between Rovers and Thistle, with Rovers running out 339-210 winners.
