Premier League: Liverpool 2-0 Man United

Monday, October 26, 2009

Liverpool earned a 2-0 victory over fierce rivals Manchester United to end their four-game losing streak and keep Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds grabbed the lead after 65 minutes when Fernando Torres collected a through ball from Yossi Benayoun and held off Rio Ferdinand before shooting into the roof of the net.

With a minute of normal time remaining, Nemanja Vidić was dismissed for a second booking after hauling down Dirk Kuyt to earn his third successive red card against Liverpool.

Three minutes into added time Javier Mascherano was also sent off for a second yellow-card offence when he slid in on Edwin van der Sar as the keeper raced out to clear.

Substitute David Ngog then made sure of the points in front of a jubilant Kop as the Frenchman kept his composure to apply the finishing touch to a swift counter-attack deep into stoppage time.
