Premier League: Chelsea 2-1 Fulham

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Chelsea ensured they go into 2010 top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Fulham enjoyed a dream start at their local rivals by taking the lead after just four minutes as a Paul Konchesky cross caused panic inside the 18-yard area and Zoltán Gera was able to hook past Petr Čech.

Chelsea's push for an equaliser was rewarded on 73 minutes when Didier Drogba rose unchallenged to power in Branislav Ivanović's cross for his 19th goal of the season.

And just two minutes later Chelsea were in front in fortunate fashion as rookie Chris Smalling inadvertently turned the ball into his own net after goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer blocked Daniel Sturridge's shot.
