Ryan Giggs extends Man United contract

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has signed a new contract which will tie him to the Premier League champions until the end of next season.

The 36-year-old midfielder has performed superbly over the last 18 months and won the PFA Player of the Year for last season, as well as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

"I am delighted that I have agreed one more year," Giggs told the club's official website.

"I am enjoying my football more than ever and I am looking forward to hopefully winning more trophies with Manchester United."

But while Giggs has committed to just the one extra year, boss Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced he could play on for a few more seasons.

The Scot added: "Ryan deserves a new contract and I am sure that he will play for another two years.

"His form is fantastic at the moment and he is playing some of his best football."

Giggs has amassed over 820 appearances for his only professional club, winning 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League crowns and numerous cup medals.
