Barcelona stayed one point above title rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table after overcaming rock-bottom Xerez 3-1, who ended the game with nine men.
The home side had looked comfortable following early goals from Jeffrén Suárez and Thierry Henry, who both found themselves on the scoresheet within 24 minutes.
Mario Bermejo cut the lead in half with a rising shot in the 25th minute before Zlatan Ibrahimović scored the all-important third goal after 55 minutes.
Matías Alustiza and Fabián Orellana were sent off for cynical tackles late on as Xerez's evening ended miserably.
