World Cup 2010 Group G: North Korea 0-3 Ivory Coast

Saturday, June 26, 2010

Ivory Coast were eliminated from the World Cup despite a comfortable 3-0 win over a poor North Korea side in their last Group G match in Nelspruit.

The opener arrived after 13 minutes as Yaya Touré took a neat touch from Arthur Boka's cross and coolly slid the ball precisely into the corner of the goal.

Romaric increased the lead in the 20th minute with a header after Didier Drogba's powerful drive bounced off the underside of the crossbar.

Substitute Salomon Kalou scored the third with eight minutes remaining, but it was not enough to seal their progression into the last 16.

The Ivorians needed a massive win combined with a loss for Portugal in the other group match to advance to the knockout rounds, but with the Portuguese drawing 0-0 with Brazil, their win proved irrelevant.
