Premier League: Liverpool 2-2 Sunderland

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Liverpool dropped two more Premier League points as they were forced to come from behind to draw 2-2 at home with Sunderland.

The home side took the lead in controversial circumstances with just four minutes on the clock as Michael Turner rolled a free-kick back towards goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to restart play, only for Fernando Torres to seize possession before setting up Dirk Kuyt for a simple finish.

Sunderland responded superbly and forged ahead with a brace from Darren Bent, his first from the penalty spot after Christian Poulsen was penalised for handball, and the second a header from Nedum Onuoha's cross.

Liverpool needed some inspiration and it arrived in the form of captain Steven Gerrard, who headed home Torres' excellent cross midway through the second period.
