Barcelona were forced to settle for a point from their trip to Russia as they played out a 1-1 draw with Rubin Kazan at Ortalyk Tsentralnyi Stadium.
The hosts went ahead on 30 minutes when captain Christian Noboa drilled home from the spot after Daniel Alves brought down Vitali Kaleshin in the box.
But Barcelona grabbed a deserved equaliser from the spot on the hour mark as David Villa beat Sergei Ryzhikov from the spot following Lasha Salukvadze's foul on Andrés Iniesta.
