Valencia struck twice in the first 10 minutes to secure a 2-0 win at Sporting Gijón and put them at the top of the La Liga table.
Mehmet Topal put Valencia ahead in the seventh minute when the Turkey midfielder powered home a header from a Manuel Fernandes corner.
Valencia doubled the lead just three minutes later as Roberto Soldado stroked in Juan Mata's cross with his right foot.
