Everton extended their unbeaten run to five games with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Goodison Park.
Yakubu grabbed the winner with his first goal of the season midway through the second half when he smashed home from a tight angle after Tim Cahill's shot rebounded off the post.
It could have been very different, however, as Tuncay Şanlı bundled the ball home from close range eight minutes earlier, only to see his effort disallowed by referee Lee Probert for a dubious-looking push on Leighton Baines.
