Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick as Arsenal strolled to a comfortable 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the Emirates.
Van Persie put Arsenal one up in the 21st minute following a pass from Alex Song and he added his second with a crisp volley on 58 minutes.
Wigan were reduced to 10 men when Gary Caldwell was shown a straight red card for a foul on Cesc FÃ bregas in the six-yard box, but van Persie smashed the resulting spot kick over the bar.
The Dutchman was not to be denied a hat-trick, however, as he he smashed home from a tight angle after Theo Walcott had held the ball up in the penalty area.
