Newcastle United moved back into the top half of the Premier League after Shola Ameobi scored for a 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic.
Ameobi's scrappy effort in the first half proved to be the only goal of the game at the DW Stadium, but the visitors also hit the crossbar through Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor.
