Liverpool's revival was halted at the Hawthorns by West Bromwich Albion as they lost 2-1 thanks to two Chris Brunt spot-kicks.
The Reds broke the deadlock after 50 minutes through Martin Škrtel's header but Chris Brunt drew the Baggies level just after the hour mark from the penalty spot after defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos brought down Peter Odemwingie just inside the area.
Another spot-kick then proved decisive, as Brunt hammered home his second penalty of the game after Odemwingie again shook off the challenge of Kyrgiakos and then was brought by Pepe Reina with two minutes two go.
