Premier League: Blackburn 4-3 Arsenal

Sunday, September 18, 2011

Two comical own goals from Alex Song and Laurent Koscielny condemned Arsenal to a 4-3 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in a thrilling contest at Ewood Park.

Arsenal opened the scoring when Gervinho scored his first goal for the Gunners in the 10th minute, only for Yakubu to equalise with his own debut goal on 25 minutes.

The visitors went into the break ahead as Aaron Ramsey surged into the box and cut the ball back for Mikel Arteta to rifle home into the roof of the net.

Blackburn drew level again early in the second half when Song could only deflect Rubén Rochina's free-kick beyond his own goalkeeper before Yakubu tapped home Steven N'Zonzi's 59th-minute low cross to put his side ahead for the first time.

Steve Kean's men then extended their advantage in the 68th minute as a lightning break from the home side saw Martin Olsson released down the right where he drove into the box and fired across goal for the hapless Koscielny to turn the ball home.

Subsitute Marouane Chamakh set up a grandstand finish with his fine header, but Blackburn fought doggedly to keep hold of all three points.
