On-loan Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma gave Hamburg the lead on 64 minutes when he reached Gökhan Töre's corner at the near post.

Hannover struggled to respond but a moment of magic from Schlaudraff brought them level in the 79th minute.

Sergio Pinto pulled a corner back to the edge of the penalty area, where Schlaudraff was waiting unmarked to fire in a volley which beat everybody on its way in.

"You don't score a goal like that every week," Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink said after the match.
