Premier League: Newcastle 2-0 Liverpool

Monday, April 2, 2012

Newcastle United made it six defeats in seven games for Liverpool with a 2-0 success at St James' Park, thanks to two goals from Papiss Demba Cissé.

The home side took the lead in the 19th minute when Hatem Ben Arfa produced a fine run before supplying to the back post for Cissé to guide an angled header home.

Liverpool fell further behind just before the hour mark as Demba Ba stabbed the ball across goal where Ben Arfa helped it on to Cissé, who calmly stepped inside Pepe Reina before firing home.

To complete a miserable afternoon for the Reds, Reina was sent off late on for an apparent head-butt on Newcastle defender James Perch, although contact appeared to be minimal.
