The Senegal striker opened the scoring with an impressive left-footed strike but that was nothing compared to his second.

Newcastle appeared to be playing the game out during stoppage time when, out on the left flank, Cissé cut across a ball with his right foot and sent a swerving shot flying over Petr Čech and into the net.

"He took a chance, obviously it's near the end of the game and it's probably the goal of the season, it was just absolutely brilliant," Newcastle boss Alan Pardew told Sky Sports.

Even the Chelsea players seemed stunned by what they had seen with Pardew sharing a joke with Blues striker Didier Drogba.

Pardew added: "I just said to Didier 'come on you've got to hold your hands up to that, it was just brilliant'."

Meanwhile, Cissé describes his wonder-strike at Stamford Bridge as the best goal of his career to date.

He told the Shields Gazette: "It was a wonderful goal. It was the best goal of my career.

"When the ball came to me, I was only thinking about scoring. It was an instinctive finish."
