The deadlock was broken in the 16th minute after Getafe were awarded a free-kick about 40 yards from goal.

León hit what looked to be a deep cross into the box but it soared over the defenders and attackers, beyond Betis goalkeeper Guillermo Sara and into the back of the net.

The former Real Madrid man struck again in the 23rd minute to put Getafe in control and Adrián Colunga soon added a third to seemingly put the game beyond the visitors.

An own goal from Rafa reduced the arrears six minutes into the second half but the hosts held firm to record their third straight victory.

"Those who follow Getafe will remember that I tried something similar in the Almería match," León explained after the game.

"When you win a free-kick which is quite far out, sometimes the keeper is yards off his line.

"(Pedro) Mosquera told me to go for it and it came off."
