Comedy Own Goal! John Boye (Ghana) vs Portugal

Friday, June 27, 2014

Ghana defender John Boye scored a contender for own goal of the tournament in their 2-1 World Cup defeat to Portugal on Thursday.

Both sides had scraped just one point in Group G and knew a draw between Germany and USA would render any result in Brasília irrelevant.

Portugal, needing a five-goal swing to overtake the USA in second place, found the goal they wanted after 31 minutes, although it was a fortunate opener.

A good attacking move from Portugal saw Miguel Veloso receive the ball on the left flank, and his cross was sliced into the far top corner by the unfortunate Boye.

Ghana equalised on 57 minutes through Asamoah Gyan, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to score the winning goal with 10 minutes of normal time left to play.
