Andriy Shevchenko will finally end his miserable spell at Chelsea after AC Milan agreed to re-sign the striker.

"Chelsea have agreed terms for Andriy Shevchenko to return to AC Milan," said a statement on the Blues' website.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said earlier this week that talks over Shevchenko had fallen through.

But a breakthrough has been made and Chelsea will transfer the Ukrainian to his former club.

Roman Abramovich signed the former European footballer of the year in 2006 but he failed to live up to expectations during two woeful seasons in England.

The £30 million striker left Milan as the club's second all-time leading goalscorer - scoring 173 goals in 296 games in all competition - during a seven-year spell at San Siro, but scored just nine times in 47 appearances for Chelsea since his move to West London.
