Beckham hoping on Milan stay

Thursday, January 29, 2009

David Beckham is enjoying his stay with AC Milan so much as the player has hinted his long-term future could lie in Italy.

The England international is currently on loan from LA Galaxy and is due to return to the MLS outfit on March 8.

However, Beckham has settled in quickly at Milan and it has been reported that the midfielder is keen to stay on longer at San Siro.

But Beckham's hopes of extending his stint depends on Galaxy granting him a permanent move.

He said in an interview with Corriere della Sera: "Playing here is every player's dream, but deciding what to do is not easy. It's something that will take time.

"I am under contract with the Galaxy and I have plenty of respect for them.

"However, the possibility of playing for Milan is special. I knew I would have fun, but I didn't know I would be enjoying it this much.

"Everyone has worked hard to help me and I have been welcomed very well. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to settle and I am a little surprised.

"I feel Milan is very similar to Manchester United. It has that kind of tradition that only big clubs have.

"At Milan, like United, you breathe a special atmosphere wherever you go, on the pitch, in training, in the stadium.

"And then Milan have that trophy room, and this makes you feel special."

But any deal will have to be tied up before the window closes at 5pm next Monday.

Milan’s club lawyer, Leandro Cantamessa, explained: "The situation is complicated and will depend on the player.

"But if there was a common interest in doing so he could remain at Milan but not on loan."
