Petr Čech going nowhere

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Petr Čech's agent has rejected recent speculation linking the Chelsea goalkeeper with a summer move to Barcelona.

The Czech Republic international was linked with a move to the Camp Nou after it was revealed he had started taking Spanish lessons.

Víctor Valdés is currently the Catalans No1 goalkeeper, but the club have admitted that they are on the lookout to strengthen their last line of defence.

"Of course, we have been discussing new signings," said Barça's vice-president Jaime Ferrer. "It is no secret that the goalkeeper is not our strongest link at the moment."

Čech's representative Pavel Zika confirmed that Barcelona are keen on signing the giant shot-stopper, but insisted his client has no intention of quitting Stamford Bridge.

He told Pravo: "We know of the interest but Petr is very happy at Chelsea and has one of the best contracts there.

"Him learning Spanish has nothing to do with Barcelona. Petr loves languages and he is good at them.

"He and his wife are expecting their second child, are happy in London and Chelsea will hardly release him."
