Govou reveals exit plan

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Olympique Lyon striker Sidney Govou has confirmed his intent to leave Stade de Gerland this summer by stating that he will not renew his current deal with the French Champions.

The 29-year-old's contract expires in 2010 and Lyon could decide to cash in this summer to avoid missing out on a fee next year.

Lyon could be willing to do business for around £3 million, which may interest Portsmouth, who have been linked with the striker in the past.

The Frenchman, who has spent 12 years at Les Gones, has cut something of an unsettled figure since the summer, struggling to reach his best form, being accused of drink-driving and then having the conclusion of his campaign decimated by a ruptured Achilles tendon in mid-January.

"I have a one year contract left with Lyon and my time is up," Govou told newspaper Dauphine Libere. "I will not renew my contract, my decision has been taken.

"The only thing I know is I won't sign again at Lyon. 12 years here, among which 10 years with the professional group - that is long. The desire to discover a new club is important."
