Serie A round-up: Zárate sends Reggina down

Mauro Zárate scored the lone goal for Lazio to condemn Reggina to relegation after six straight years in Serie A.

The match was brought forward from Sunday to give UEFA time to prepare the Stadio Olimpico for next week's Champions League final.

Lazio went ahead after 26 minutes when Zárate latched onto Ousmane Dabo's precise pass to poke the ball under goalkeeper Christian Puggioni.

Franco Brienza had a golden opportunity to equalise on 37 minutes but he took the ball too wide in a one-on-one with Juan Pablo Carrizo and allowed the defense to recover.

Carrizo then made an heroic save from Brienza's right-footed volley in the dying minutes as Lazio held on for the win to send Reggina down to Serie B.
