Ajax Amsterdam defender Thomas Vermaelen claims he is on the verge of a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Belgian international in recent weeks with reports suggesting a fee of around £11 million has been agreed for the player.
"Moving to Arsenal is the right path for me," Vermaelen told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
"It is a great sporting challenge and I will also be financially better off. I think everything is going to be OK.
"In the coming days there will be more talks."
But ex-Arsenal skipper Tony Adams has warned boss Arsène Wenger against splashing out on Vermaelen, who stands at 5ft 11ins.
He told the Daily Mirror: "Thomas is a very good player but I don't think the punters at Arsenal would like another small one."
