Substitute Jermain Defoe scored two second-half goals to help England rally for a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.

The Dutch took the lead in the 10th minute when Dirk Kuyt intercepted Rio Ferdinand's weak pass, rounded goalkeeper Robert Green and smashed a shot in off the despairing John Terry who had raced to the goal-line to try and save the damage.

Another defensive error - this time by Gareth Barry - allowed stand-in captain Rafael van der Vaart to make it 2-0 in the 36th minute.

Defoe pulled one back for England four minutes into the second half as he latched onto Frank Lampard's long pass, raced away from the Dutch defence and coolly clipped his shot in off the post.

And with 14 minutes left another substitute James Milner crossed low for Defoe who slid in his second and spared a few blushes in the process.
