New boy Sébastien Bassong's winner ensured all three points for Tottenham Hotspur following a 2-1 over Liverpool at White Hart Lane.
Spurs opened the scoring just before the break as Benoît Assou-Ekotto struck a ferocious effort into the top corner from just outside the box.
Liverpool drew level in the 56th minutes when Glen Johnson was brought down by Heurelho Gomes in the box and Steven Gerrard kept his cool to convert the resulting penalty.
But Spurs regained the lead on three minutes later when Bassong nodded the winner from Luka Modrić's free-kick and mark his debut in style.
