Premier League: Fulham 3-1 Liverpool

Sunday, November 1, 2009

Liverpool ended with nine men in a 3-1 loss at Fulham to slip further out of contention for a Premier League title they have not won since 1990.

After Bobby Zamora had given Fulham a 24th-minute lead, Fernando Torres equalised with a fabulous volley from the edge of the box for his 10th league goal of the season.

The home side took the lead again in the 73rd minute when substitute Erik Nevland headed home from close range.

Things went from bad to worse for Liverpool late on as defensive duo Phillipp Degen and Jamie Carragher were sent off for a lunging tackle and professional foul respectively.

And to compound Liverpool's misery, Clint Dempsey rolled in the third for Fulham four minutes from time.
