Alberto Zaccheroni replaces Ciro Ferrara as Juventus coach

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Juventus have appointed Alberto Zaccheroni as their new coach in place of Ciro Ferrara, who was sacked following the club's dismal form this term.

The former Udinese, AC Milan and Inter Milan coach will take charge until the end of the season.

"I recognise the work done by my predecessor," Zaccheroni told a press conference.

"Earlier this campaign, Juve showed good football but it is time to turn the page.

"I like challenges, starting a new cycle. I'll bring my expertise, but mostly I believe I will be able to meet this challenge.

"It's a major challenge for a club that has made football history in Italy and around the world and for me it's a real honour to be entrusted with the management of this situation.

"The objective is entering the top four in the league. The minimum target for this year is entry into the Champions League."

Ferrara's departure had long been predicted after the Turin giants slipped to sixth in the Serie A standings following a miserable run of six defeats in eight league matches.

They have also been eliminated from the Champions League at the group stages and exited the Coppa Italia.
