Sevilla spurned the chance to close on third-placed Valencia after being held at home to a 1-1 draw by fellow high-flyers Deportivo La Coruña.
The home side took the lead in the 20th minute when Federico Fazio headed in a free kick from fellow Argentine Diego Perotti.
But Depor drew level just three minutes later as Andrés Guardado drilled a low cross into the near post and Adrián López got on the end of it to side-foot a shot past the helpless Andrés Palop.
