Unsettled Albert Riera on his way to Russia?

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Outspoken Liverpool winger Albert Riera, who described the club as a "sinking ship", is keen on securing a move to Russia in order to revive his World Cup dream.

The Spaniard last week launched a scathing attack on Reds boss Rafa Benítez, who he claimed held a personal grudge against him, and was subsequently suspended by the Merseyside club.

"Russia presents a very interesting option for me," Riera is quoted as saying in Russian newspaper Sport Express.

"For one, it's the only prestigious league in Europe where the transfer window is open.

"And secondly, if I play there regularly, I may be able to earn my ticket to the World Cup in South Africa.

"I hope that the question of my transfer will be resolved by this week."

Any deal must go through before the Russian transfer deadline, which is on April 8.
