Italian soccer player given 12-year ban

Francesco Flachi, the striker of Italian Serie B club Brescia, has been handed a 12 year ban that will end on January 2022, effectively ending his career forthwith.
Traces of cocaine were found in an anti-doping sample he gave after a match between Brescia and Modena last December.
The National Anti-Doping Tribunal came down hard on Flachi as he has already been suspended for doping offences in the past.
He previously served a two-year ban in 2007 after he tested positive for cocaine at the end of Sampdoria’s match against Inter Milan on January 28.
The Italian Olympic Committee stopped short of a lifetime ban, such as that given to former Brescia midfielder Jonathan Bachini for a second positive cocaine test in 2006, although the length of the ban will have a similar effect in Flachi's case.
