Argentine defender Emiliano Dudar is in an induced coma after an ugly clash of heads during a Swiss league match on Sunday.

During a match against FC Basel, Young Boys defender Dudar was concussed and broke his nose clashing heads with team-mate François Affolter in the 37th minute of the first half.

The 29-year-old fell awkwardly and the game was halted for eight minutes while he was taken off the pitch and moved directly to hospital, where recent reports indicated that he was stable.

"It was a terrible sight. I have never experienced anything like this before," said Basel striker Marco Streller.

"There was total silence in the dressing room at half-time. Our thoughts were, and are, with Dudar."

Young Boys sporting director Alain Baumann added: "It doesn't matter if he is out for three weeks or three months - all that matters is that he recovers."

Young Boys led 2-0 when the incident happened, then drew the match 2-2.
