Real Madrid moved top of the La Liga standings, albeit for 24 hours, after claiming a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad at a hostile Anoeta Stadium.
Summer signing Ángel di María gave the visitors the lead against the run of play on 51 minutes when he cut in from the left and curled a superb shot into the far top corner.
Raúl Tamudo drew Sociedad level in the 62nd minute as he ran unmarked on to an Antoine Griezmann free kick and bundled the ball into the net with his knee.
But Real were not to be denied and Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick 16 minutes from time sealed the points for Los Merengues.
