Thierry Henry injures opponent goalkeeper while celebrating goal

New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry was involved in a bizarre incident in Thursday night's 2-2 tie that left the FC Dallas goalkeeper with an injured right knee.

The former Arsenal hero attempted to celebrate a goal by his team-mate Mehdi Ballouchy by kicking the ball into the back of the net.

Trouble is, Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman had already reached the ball and was trying to kick it toward midfield for the kickoff.

Henry's hard kick caught Hartman's foot, an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

As Hartman limped toward the locker room at halftime, Henry walked with him and offered his apologies.

"The ball was there and like I do sometimes, I just wanted to kick the ball back in the net," Henry said.

"He put his foot out there and that's how he got injured. That was unfortunate.

"I went to apologise at half-time because I didn't mean to hurt him. A pure accident. I told him I was sorry. He accepted it. It was one of those stupid things."
