Michael Essien scored before being sent off as Chelsea cemented their spot at the top of the Premier League table with 1-0 win over local rivals Fulham.
Essien, back in the team after missing two matches because of a toe injury, scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute, heading Salomon Kalou's cross down and into the net.
But the midfielder's solid display was tainted as he was given his marching orders deep into stoppage-time for a two-footed lunge on Clint Dempsey.
