Sunderland suffered a third successive Premier League defeat following a 2-1 loss to Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light.
The home side took the lead after 11 minutes courtesy of Asamoah Gyan's brilliant turn and finish, before Michael Dawson's header went through the body of Craig Gordon on the stroke of half-time.
And Niko Kranjčar grabbed the winner for Spurs on the hour mark with a technically superb volley that completed the comeback.
