The 29-year-old launched a plate of salad at a team-mate during team dinner on Sunday after a joke got out of hand.

The airborne bit of china flew through the air and struck fellow defender Alessandro Crescenzi, who required 50 stitches to stop the bleeding in his arm.

"Masiello did throw the plate, but Crescenzi got in the middle. Apparently the object was meant to hit goalkeeper Zdeněk Zlámal," Bari sporting director Claudio Garzelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The row started for silly reasons, as it seemed to be a joke that got out of hand. This is why Bari have decided to defer Masiello to the Disciplinary Commission.

"The player will officially be frozen out of the squad tomorrow. He tried to apologise and was shaken, but also realised how serious his behaviour was."

It is likely Bari will be given permission to terminate his contract for unprofessional behaviour.
