Barcelona are now three points off La Liga leaders Real Madrid after being held to a 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao on a drenched San Mames pitch.
The home side took the lead after 20 minutes through a well-taken shot from Ander Herrera but Barça restored parity four minutes later when Cesc Fà bregas headed home an Éric Abidal cross.
Bilbao went back in front in the 80th minute thanks to a comical mix-up in the Barcelona defense, with Abidal's attempted clearance striking Gerard Piqué and bobbling over the line.
But just when it appeared that Barcelona would suffer their first defeat, Lionel Messi took advantage of a slip from Gorka Iraizoz in a drenched penalty area to lash home a late equaliser.
