Messi already lives in an exclusive apartment in the Pedralbes neighbourhood of Catalonia, but the Argentine superstar is apparently planning an upgrade.

According to cuidad.com.ar, Messi wishes to settle in Catalonia for the remainder of his career and beyond retirement, so he has commissioned famous Spanish architect Garrido to build him an ultra-modern house.

Garrido told an Argentinian TV channel that he wanted to create a "symbolic" home that "identifies with his Messi's personality".

And that meant only one thing: a football themed house which was environmentally sound.

The project is based around simulating a football pitch and the No 10 the player wears on his shirt can be seen from the air.

Whether it is built one day or not remains to be seen, but clearly the plans are well-advanced.
